Salzburg, Austria- Round #1 of the 2009 König der Berge Cup (King of the Hills Cup) is set to begin this weekend, May 23-24 in Lohnsburg/Kobernaußerwald, Austria. The Downhill vs Miniramp Skateboard Challenge is being organized by Gravity Sports Austria (GSA) and sanctioned by the IGSA with Regional status. Registration for this event is SOLD OUT!
On Saturday the action will get underway with a morning practice session for the riders to get aquainted with the track. A timed qualifying session will follow to set the brackets for Sundays race. In the afternoon, the skaters will show off their skills in a Miniramp-Contest. The day will culminate with a laid-back evening of skate videos shown in a nearby restaurant.
The events are being organized so that both beginning and advanced riders can have a great experience. Top speeds on the course will be in the 50-60 km/h (31-37 mph) range. The experience of the GSA crew will ensure a safe racing environment.
In 2008, Gravity Sports Austria started the König der Berge Cup Series exclusively for Austrian Downhill Skateboarder, Classic Luge, Street Luge, Gravity Bike and Dirtsurfer competitors. With a huge interest of non-Austrian racers for the Cup Series, GSA decided to open the Cup Series to all nationalities. For this reason there will be two catagories. One for Austrian racers only and an open class!
GSA’s aim is to organize one race per month from May till October in Austria and nearby border regions. At the end of the race season the organizers are planning a big party with awards for the overall winners and lots of prizes from skate related companies.
