Vancouver, Canada- It is with heavy hearts that the IGSA reports the passing of emerging artist and downhill skateboarding competitor Glenna Evans. Glenna was killed Friday in North Vancouver when she failed to negotiated a turn at the bottom of a steep hill.
The crash happened at about 11 a.m. Friday when she failed to negotiate a turn onto Anne MacDonald Way, which is at the foot of Mount Seymour in North Vancouver. She was wearing a helmet, police said. An off-duty trauma nurse and a firefighter were in the area and tried to save Evans after the crash, but she later died at Lions Gate Hospital.
Her family released a statement and asked for privacy, RCMP Cpl. Peter DeVries said in a press release.
“Glenna Evans was an honours student at Emily Carr University. She had finished her third year in the fine arts program and was to begin completion of a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree this fall. She earned awards at university and in high school in Victoria,” the family statement said. “[She] was a serious longboard skate competitor for several years and has placed well in international competition in the U.S. and Canada. She was practicing in full racing gear at Mount Seymour.”
Last weekend Glenna had raced at the Maryhill Festival of Speed in the Women's Downhill Skateboarding division. She had qualified 5th and finished the race in 6th position. To view some of Glenna's art, please visit her website at http://glennaevans.ca.
