So what do you do when you’re an internationally famous race car driver and you have a week off? If you’re Andy Lally, you pick up your street luge and go race at the Maryhill Festival of Speed / IGSA World Cup race September 2-6 in Goldendale, Washington. Andy has been racing street luge for many years.
In fact he narrowly missed winning the IGSA World Championship back in 2003 finishing a close second to X Games Gold Medalist Brent DeKeyser. Since those days, Andy hasn't competed much since his busy schedule and race driving contracts have rarely allowed it.

As the demand for Andy's driving talent has continued to grow he's had less and less time to pursue his street luge passion. In addition, his contracts usually haven't allowed it. Even though driving racing cars can be a hazardous occupation, team owners don’t want to see their star drivers injured during their leisure time. Top teams and sponsors invest a lot of money into a driver and their contracts typically forbid activities like skiing and snowboarding. In the past Andy’s teams knew about his street luge racing and didn’t want their driver taking those sort of risks. Fortunately for Andy, his current contracts do allow street luge racing and with the rare week off, he’ll be mixing it up with the world’s best at Maryhill.

Andy’s motor racing accomplishments are many. He’s won the 2001 and 2009 Rolex 24 hours of Daytona and finished 2nd three more times. In addition he’s won three Grand American Rolex Series Championships and is third on the all time win list. His stock car experience includes the NASCAR Nationwide Series, Craftsman Trucks, ARCA and Goodies Dash. Lally has also competed in the 24 hours of LeMans finishing third in 2006.

His Street Luge racing resume is also impressive with wins in 2003 at the World Cup events in Talamina, Oklahoma and Altburon, Switzerland. As mentioned earlier, he finished second at the World Championships in Kaurnatal, Austria that same year. In addition, Andy was the winner of the 2004 World Cup event in Bainbridege, Ohio. Maryhill will be his first serious race in years. His presence will be welcomed by his fellow racers and is likely to bring out many motor racing fans who’ve never seen a street luge race before.
