Eastbourne, England- The dates of GoFast Speed Days have been moved to August 21-23, 2009 due to a scheduling conflict with an Extreme Sports Festival in nearby Brighton.

The new August date has been chosen due to a number of factors.  It will give the event the best possibility for good weather and being at the height of tourist season will attract the largest number of spectators.  The organizers and IGSA had also looked at alternative dates in June, July and September but due to a number of factors, none of those were workable.

“Rare orchids grow along the race course and the largest number of them grow inside the first turn”, said Kris Yule from GoFast. Due to environmental issues that makes the Beachy Head course off limits from the beginning of June until the second week of August.  The “Airborne” airshow, Eastbourne’s biggest event of the year, is held Aug 14-15 so that date was not an option either.  Moving the date later than the 23rd of August or to the first full weekend of September would place it too close to the Maryhill Festival of Speed.  A late September date would almost guarantee rain so that was not a viable option either.

“We really didn’t want to move the Eastbourne event but given the circumstances and the level of commitment being made by both GoFast and the Eastbourne Council, we feel this is the best solution for everyone involved.  We feel that this new date is the best available solution for the competitors, organizers, and sponsors”, said IGSA President Marcus Rietema.“

Detailed information on the event will be available at a later date.
